Grass
The basis of life
Grass is generally considered the basis of human life on earth. To be more specific it is the interaction of Grass, their soil, and the animals that use them.
Did you know Grass makes topsoil? This is the reason that topsoil on prairies may be many feet thick, but that topsoil in forest may be very shallow.
Without grass we cannot grow crops. Literally, continued cropping removes the nutrients and depletes the soil. No doubt you hear about the topsoil losses on the news.
What you don't hear about is how much topsoil was created in pasture. For thousands of years, civilizations have returned cropland to grass for a period of time to rebuild its structure and growing ability. This is still true today in many countries.
.
How much is available?
Grass is one of the most plentiful sources of food we have. Take a look at any cropping map and you will see that most of the earth is useful for growing grass but not for growing crops. Most land is too steep, too rocky, too cold, or in other ways not hospitable for planted crops. All crop land needs to be returned to grass if it is to be sustained for the growing of crops naturally.
Ruminant animals - (animals that graze) turn grass into food for us. They naturally fertilize the land which works with the tiny animals in the soil and the grasses to build new soil.
Grass and Grazing Animals
When an animal consumes an all grass diet during its life (or very close to an all grass diet) it becomes a chemically different animal from one fed grain. A grain fed animal can be a cancer causing animal.
A Grass Animal has a higher content of CLA and Omega 6 acids. When these are present an animal has been shown to be cancer preventing. This is Nature's Nutrition.
What does Natural Nutrition do for you?
Pastured Meat is part of a natural diet. To what extent you select to go to a natural diet will be a personal choice. Today, highly processed food that was neither designed by God or evolved with man is readily and easily available. A host of studies shows a high correlation between these modern food substitutes and some of the conditions and diseases we have started to see. Modern food preservation and quick transportation methods have allowed us to better our over all nutrition levels even with manufactured artificial food. By utilizing sources of Natural Nutrition we remove any possible bad side effects of the artificial foods.
What is the Nutritional Difference?
The difference of pasture is demonstrated in the nutritional value. Scientific tests prove the difference. They have more natural vitamins and have few to no chemical residues as a rule.
Lowers LDL Cholesterol Fewer Calories Extra Omega-3s (2 to 6 times more)Sixty percent of fatty acids in cattle on grass may be Omega 3's Chicken eggs may have 20 times more omega 3s The key is to have a high Omega 3 to Omega 6 level. Pasture does, feed lots do not.
Extra CLA - "conjugated linoleic acid"Pasture based animals have 3 to 5 times more for cancer prevention and slower aging
More Protein and less fat. low in bad fat, high in essential fatty acids More Vitamin A and Beta-carotene, folic acid, and vitamin B12, TVA, lutein, zeaxanthin, More Vitamin E - about 4 times more vs. a feed lot animalLower Heart disease and cancer - Probable anti aging properties
Boost your Brain Power
According to scientific research, pasturing adds nutrients to many foods - from eggs to beef to lamb. The added nutrients can do the following for many people:
§
Less likelihood of high blood pressure/irregular heartbeat/ heart attack.§
Better brain function and lower chance of common brain disorders such as ADD, Alzheimer's, depression, schizophrenia. Also anti-aging properties.§
Slower cancer growth and reduction or elimination of spread in many cancers.§
Reduced tumor growth.§
Reduced cancer risk - breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer,§
Protection from macular degeneration as well as heart diseaseWhat is a Pastured Meat?
A wide variety of meats are available. It has been suggested that a minimum of the last 90 days of finishing be on pasture. There is growing evidence that animals that are on pasture and a natural diet from day one have more to offer us. Your Grazier can explain to what degree your meat supply was raised on pasture and what additional items were utilized. The more you know, the better decision you can make.
What about fat?
Moderate levels of good fats are essential. Good Fat from pasture contains essential nutrients and is essential to a natural healthy lifestyle Vitamins, Minerals, CLA, Proper Omega Balance are all included in Pastured Meats. Pastured meats are usually low in overall fat.. Feedlot and housed meats may aggravate cancer and other health problems while Pastured meats are being shown to discourage these problems. Most can eat pastured meats, actually lose weight and improve health. It is a great natural food.

The information in this brochure was obtained primarily from:
Life conditions of an animal on a managed grazing ranch
Animals raised on a managed grazing program have far fewer health problems and often none at all. Medication is typically not needed and stress is minimal. The animal is catered to with fresh water and fresh pasture. Life is good
Animals raised or finished in a feed lot (you may not want to read further) are raised on their own dung in all the weather conditions. Sickness is common place and often the animals are routinely medicated. This appears to affect the utility of medicine for humans.
You Choose
In a dirty feed lot
or on fresh grass
